Known for her porcelain creations, Dallas based artist Jen Rose found new inspiration in a Leclerc table loom she rescued from the curb while on a walk in her neighborhood last April.  Using knowledge gained about weaving from her days in college, she began experimenting with integrating weaving into her porcelain practice, and in the process created a brand-new body of artworks. The resulting exhibition “Since Last We Met” showcases her astonishing imagination and masterful technical skill while reflecting the uncertainty and ever-changing reality of the pandemic year in which they were created.

As Jen says, “Perhaps the most constant theme that endures (in my work) is the idea of multiplicity.  My brain tingles when I see forms and images in endless quantities”.  This idea of multiplicity fits naturally with the repeated motions of weaving.  Developing a process of securely attaching multiples of her porcelain forms via the weaving of either linen or nylon, she has discovered infinite possibilities for dynamic sculptures.  Most of these creations are kinetic and come to life as they are hung, draped, twisted, and manipulated.  Each piece embodying its own character.

Join us for Jen Rose’s first solo exhibition with the CAMIBAart Gallery, on view from April 15th through May 15th, 2021.  Open by appointment.
